Photo of Don Machholz Don teaches a non-credited class at Sierra College in Grass Valley, California, twice a year. The class is called "Exploring the Night Sky" and runs six weeks in a row.

Spring 2012 classes will be held on Thursdays beginning March 15 and ending April 19 (with April 26 as a backup date) from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Fall 2012 classes will be held on Thursdays beginning September 20 through October 18 (with October 25 as a backup date) from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

Each class consists of about an hour of lecture and discussion held in a classroom, and an hour of visual astronomical observation at the facility's observatory. We use a C-11 and several C-8 telescopes and a couple of 6" and 8" reflectors. We will also be using binoculars and the unaided eye.

This class is open to anyone wanting to learn more about astronomy. We will study the solar system, stars, clusters, galaxies, constellations and the motions of objects in the sky. The cost is about $88 for the course, payable to the Sierra College Continuing Education department. Visit their website at www.sccommed.org.

If you have questions about the course, please feel free to contact Don.
