Once the planning is completed, committee members shift their attention to implementing the Kid Watch program. One of the first tasks is to identify a program coordinator. The coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the program, such as recruiting volunteers, conducting application and background checks, conducting orientations and trainings, maintaining regular contact with volunteers, and retrieving decals from those no longer participating in the program.

The program coordinator and committee members should map the primary routes children walk to and from school and canvas the area for people interested in participating in the program. Good coverage of the community is a necessity. Without community support, the Kid Watch program will not succeed. Arrange to host an introductory meeting with involved parties such as principals, parents, teachers, law enforcement representatives, and community members. Distribute invitations encouraging all to attend and learn more about the program and ways they can participate.

To start a Kid Watch program in your neighborhood, begin by contacting the local schools, community members, and police.
